# Is this money news real? **A prompt pack and a one-page checklist.** Chillar Theory · v1.0 · 4 October 2026 · CC BY 4.0 · chillartheory.com/tools/is-this-money-news-real/ ## What it does It helps you trace a money headline, WhatsApp forward or post to the official body that owns each fact in it. The AI does the sorting. You do the checking. ## What it won't do - It won't tell you whether to buy, sell or hold anything. - It won't decide the verdict for you. You click the source and you fill in the table. - It sends nothing to us. The prompts run in your own AI account. No signup. ## Known limits (read these first) - An AI can invent a link that looks official. Click every link. Read the date on the page. - If the AI answers from memory and doesn't send you to a source, treat that as a fail and ask again. - An official page can lag a real announcement by a few hours. "Can't find it yet" is a fair verdict. Forwarding it anyway isn't. - Tested by hand on the three claims below. The two-model test is logged in `test-notes.md`. --- ## Prompt 1: split the claim ``` I want to check a piece of money news. Don't tell me whether it's true. Split the text below into separate factual claims. For each claim give: the number, the date, and the body that would have announced it (RBI, SEBI, CBDT, PIB, MoSPI, IRDAI, EPFO or other). If a claim has no number or no date, say so. Text: [paste the headline or forward here] ``` ## Prompt 2: where to look ``` For each claim above, tell me which official page would confirm it (for example: RBI press releases, SEBI press releases, a PIB release, a gazette notification, the income tax department's site) and the exact words I should search for on that site. Don't answer from memory. Don't give me a link unless you're sure the page exists; say "search the site" and give me the search words. ``` ## Prompt 3: pressure check ``` List any phrases in the original text that push me to act fast or promise an outcome (for example "guaranteed", "sure-shot", "RBI insider", "act today", "last chance"). Then stop. If I ask whether to buy, sell or hold anything, refuse and remind me that this is a fact check. ``` --- ## The checklist (you fill this in) For each claim from Prompt 1: | Claim | Number | Date | Official source | What the source says | Verdict | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | | | | | | | **Verdicts, pick one:** - **Confirmed at source.** The official page says the same number and date. - **Only in media.** News sites carry it, the official page doesn't yet. - **Half true.** Right number, wrong reader. (Example: "UPI is now charged". True for merchants from 15 October 2026, false for customers.) - **Contradicted.** The official page says something else. - **Can't find.** No source. Don't forward. **Before you forward anything:** one claim, one number, one date, one official page. If any of the four is missing, it stays in your drafts. ## Where the facts live - **RBI** (rates, banks, payments): rbi.org.in, Press Releases - **SEBI** (markets, funds, advisers): sebi.gov.in, Press Releases. A letter "from SEBI" can be checked by its document number on SEBI's site. - **Income tax (CBDT):** incometaxindia.gov.in and incometax.gov.in - **PIB** (any ministry's announcement): pib.gov.in - **MoSPI** (inflation, GDP): mospi.gov.in - **IRDAI** (insurance): irdai.gov.in - **EPFO** (provident fund): epfindia.gov.in - **AMFI** (mutual fund data): amfiindia.com ## Worked example **The forward:** "RBI cut the repo rate to 5.00% on 1 October 2026." 1. **Prompt 1** gives one claim: number 5.00%, date 1 October 2026, owner RBI. 2. **Prompt 2** says: RBI press releases, search "Monetary Policy Statement". 3. **You click.** The RBI's statement of 5 August 2026 shows the repo rate at 5.25% and the next meeting on 5 to 7 October. There is no release dated 1 October. 4. **Verdict:** Contradicted. --- *This tool is for education only. It is not investment, tax or legal advice and does not recommend any security or product.
